Tampa Area Concerts In August
The month starts with an annual Q105 tradition - Freestyle Explosion Throwback Jam. This year's show once again happens at Amalie Arena in Tampa. On Saturday, August 10 almost a dozen dance club icons will take the stage. As always Stevie B headlines performing his hits like Spring Love, Party Your Body, I Wanna Be The One and Because I Love You. Plus it's the only one on this list that's air conditioned!

If you've never been to a Freestyle Explosion concert, it's a wild night of quick sets with just the biggest hits from dance club legends of the 80s and 90s. This was last year's lineup at Amalie Arena.
Up next on August 16, Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Chicago teams up with Earth, Wind & Fire for a show at the MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre in Tampa. Def Leppard and Journey put on quite a show at Camping World Stadium in Orlando last week. The Summer Stadium featured a local favorite opening the show, Cheap Trick. Seeing Journey and Def Leppard in concert in a stadium setting really brought back that 80s vibe. The Orlando concert was the only Florida stop on The Journey and Def Leppard Summer Stadium 2024 tour.
It was a much different lineup than the last Stadium Tour stop for Def Leppard at Camping World Stadium in Orlando. A couple years ago, Poison and Motley Crue shared the stage with Joe Elliott.
There were a lot of special moments throughout the night. Robin Zander of Cheap Trick let his son take the spotlight for a bit. Journey played all of their classic Q105 hits, 18 in all. The setlist included "Faithfully," "Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin'," "Open Arms," "Lights," "Separate Ways," "Be Good to Yourself," "Any Way You Want It," and of course you knew they were going to end their set with the classic "Don't Stop Believin'."
Journey also debuted a new song for the tour, "Dead or Alive." It's a song from their 1981 album Escape. It was the first song on side 2 of the album... if you remember the vinyl days! Longtime Journey fans certainly miss Steve Perry, but Arnel Pineda delivers for the full Journey concert experience.
Def Leppard also performed 18 songs on their set. opening with "Rock Rock (Til You Drop)." Other Q105 favorites they included in the Orlando set: "Armageddon It," "Love Bites," "Foolin'," "Rock of Ages," "Photograph," "Hysteria," and of course the set ended with the big crowd favorite, "Pour Some Sugar On Me."
