Tampa will distribute $2 million to homeowners struck by hurricanes Helene and Milton. The Homeowner Hurricane Assistance program opens Nov. 17. It closes Dec. 12.

Officials will prioritize people in the worst-hit zip codes. Forest Hills, Palmetto Beach, and South of Gandy/Port Tampa top the list. Each household can receive up to $30,000.

"Even a year after the storm, our commitment to supporting homeowners remains unwavering," Mayor Jane Castor said in a news release, per WTSP. "We understand their challenges and continue to explore innovative ways to strengthen the resilience of our housing stock."

Homeowners must live within Tampa's borders and earn up to 140% of the Area Median Income, with 10% wiggle room allowed. For a family of four, that's around $160,000.

The program targets two groups: residents who still need repairs done and those who already finished work but paid out of pocket. Money comes from federal sources and Tampa's general fund.

"These funds aim to achieve two purposes: to assist homeowners who remain unable to repair their homes one year after the storms, and to reimburse those who completed repairs but exceeded the income thresholds for the Homeowner Disaster Assistance Program," said Development and Economic Opportunity Administrator Abbye Feeley, per Bay News 9.

Funding covers roof fixes or replacements, HVAC systems, drywall, flooring, cabinetry, interior restoration, and tree removal tied to hurricane damage. Applicants must show income records and government-issued photo identification for every adult living there.

Proof of home ownership is required. So is evidence showing disaster impact and recovery efforts. People need receipts for completed work or written estimates from licensed contractors for jobs yet to start.

Applications are open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday starting Nov. 17 through Dec. 12. Homeowners can apply online or call the Housing Information Line at 813-307-5555 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Residents who got awards from the Homeowner Disaster Assistance Program earlier this year cannot apply for this new program.
