The City of Tampa will host an eight-hour homebuyer workshop on March 21 to teach first-time purchasers how to buy a home in 2026. Classes run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Tampa City Center.

According to Tampa.gov, the session covers credit preparation, mortgage loan options, and the approval process. Attendees will learn about down payment assistance programs available to first-time buyers.

Participants receive instruction on inspections, insurance, and closing procedures. The workshop also teaches steps to qualify for a home purchase and how to access financial help.

Registration is required. Seats are limited.

The class is open to the public at no cost. The event takes place at 2555 E. Hanna Ave., 33610, in Tampa, and those interested can register through a Microsoft Teams event page.

The workshop's goals is to help buyers prepare their finances for home ownership, and will cover topics like understanding mortgage products and navigating the loan approval system that can seem confusing to new buyers.

Down payment assistance remains a key focus. Many first-time purchasers struggle to save enough money for upfront costs, which can range from thousands to tens of thousands depending on the property.

The session lasts a full business day. Attendees should plan for the entire eight-hour commitment to complete everything.

Pre-registration must be completed before March 21. Walk-in participants cannot be accommodated due to space limits.

The program is HUD-approved, which means the training meets federal standards for homebuyer education.
