Ever had a vegan hot dog? They actually don't taste that different than a normal one, but you don't really have to worry about "how the sausage gets made." And these are not your average hot dog combos. A popular food cart is finally getting an upgrade. Nah Dogs will open its first brick-and-mortar shop at 18 22nd St. South in St. Petersburg's Grand Central District this summer. Since 2019, the all-vegan hot dog vendor has rolled its cart to markets, festivals, and pop-ups across Tampa Bay.

The new shop shares a courtyard with Black Crow Coffee and Tombolo Books. Fresh signage hangs at the site, which once held Rabbit Rabbit, a cafe pouring coffee, smoothies, and mocktails.

Jeff and Jenny Howe, a married pair, run the show, according to I Love the Burg.com. They also own Good Intentions, a plant-based eatery down the street.

Nah Dogs serves vegan franks loaded with creative combos and custom add-ons. The Yo Soy Dog gets piled with nacho cheeze, street corn salsa, pickled jalapeño, garlic mayo, and crunched tortilla chips. The Captain brings chili, cheeze, fried onions, and spicy mustard. Want something simple? The Civilian delivers relish, chopped onion, ketchup, and mustard.

Guests can craft their own creations. Toppings? Chili, nacho cheeze, chopped onions, pickled jalapeños, sweet relish, fried onions, sauerkraut, and crunched potato chips. Sauces run from ketchup to mustard, spicy mustard, and garlic mayo.

Pick your bun: pretzel, poppyseed, or split. Over the years, the cart has won fans with wild options — buffalo mac n cheeze, "bacon" strips, macaroni salad, BBQ sauce, and a Chicago-style frank.

The shop will have courtyard seating or takeout. Grab your dog, sip coffee from Black Crow, then wander into Tombolo for a book.

Before the doors swing open at the permanent spot, catch the cart at a few events. March 14? Mezzo Market. April 12 brings Indie Flea, and April 25-26 means Green Thumb Festival.

Follow the business on Instagram and Facebook for the opening date and new menu items.
