Cam’s cover of “Sweet Dreams” at the Opry brought back memories of my mother singing in the kitchen when I was a kid. When my mother passed years ago, I never really cried. But hearing Cam do that cover… within 2 or 3 seconds, I started welling up. It was so unexpected. And just telling Cam the story of that day started making me stutter and I felt my throat tighten. For Cam, the connection to Patsy Cline’s music is her grandmother. In this interview, I’m apparently not the only one who’s suggested Cam do an entire album of Patsy Cline covers. And Cam doesn’t seem resistant to the idea.
We also talk about why Cam had to pull out of her Florida Strawberry Festival performance in Plant City at the last minute this year. Turns out she was filming segments to be a mentor and perform on American Idol.
