I lived in California for about 5 years. I'm glad I did it. And I'm glad I left. The east coast will always be home for me. Thing is, when you grow up on the east coast, you don't get a true sense of California if you just go to visit the Hollywood sign or Golden Gate Bridge. The real California is pretty spectacular - it's like 5 countries on one state. When you can spend time in California, you get to discover nooks and crannies most tourists won't see like Monterey and Lake Tahoe. Found these pics from a trip I took for Thanksgiving 10 years ago.

First a visit to In-N-Out is a must.

We'll also visit Lake Tahoe later.

But right now, time to hit the wineries.

Getting close...

The drive through Napa...

Cheers.

One thing I don't miss about Cali: gas prices.

Uh spellcheck?

Up next, a stop in Monterey near the coast... home of a great aquarium.

Another beautiful drive...

Now off to Lake Tahoe
