Roxanne’s Trip To Tribeca
Roxanne traveled to New York City for a quick 12-hour trip to attend the premiere of THE CAPTAIN at the Tribeca Film Festival.

Because our flight was delayed four hours, I had to do all of my hair and make-up in the back of a yellow cab.
Photo Courtesy of RWOver our break, Doug and I took a trip to New York City to see the premiere of The Captain at the Tribeca Film Festival. It was a total whirlwind trip. We were only in the city for 12 hours (including sleeping time). We would have been there a little longer, but our flight out of Tampa was delayed by 4 hours. Welcome to 2022 Summer Travel.
We arrived at the theater just before show time and sat down to watch Episode One. There will be a total of seven episodes, and the first will air on ESPN on July 18th.
Director of the documentary, Randy Wilkins, said that he wanted to tell the story of an American cultural icon in a way where everyone would relate to it and that he would essentially be telling us a story about ourselves. Even though Derek's is a one-of-a-kind story of stratospheric success, at its core, it is about someone who has big dreams and doesn't let anything deter him and who accomplishes things with love and support from family. And I think that's what most of us are trying to do on this earth. Chase some dreams and support our loved ones in their pursuits.
Here are some photos of the adventure.
Makes no difference whether or not you love baseball. You will LOVE this documentary. The Captain is a must-watch.
Busch Gardens invited the Q105 crew out to the official opening of Iron Gwazi Thursday night. I got to be a test pilot a few weeks ago and they recorded it all on video. But that was daytime... what's it like to ride Iron Gwazi at night? Had to find out!
3, 2, ... 1!

Ceremonies began with a welcome from Busch Gardens President Neal Thurman. Described as the world's fastest and steepest hybrid rollercoaster, Iron Gwazi is also the tallest hybrid rollercoaster in North America. "With 12 heart pounding air time moments with 3 inversions, Iron Gwazi is a non-stop action-packed thrill machine," said Thurman.
Fireworks and confetti...

With the push of the button, the first official riders of Iron Gwazi were frontline workers who helped get us through the pandemic.
Terrifying... but for a good cause.

Busch Gardens is using the coaster to help raise money for wild animal charities with Gwazi merchandise sold at the park.
It's time!

Are you brave enough to take on Iron Gwazi? One your seatbelt is fastened, the bar is lowered to keep you safe during those "air time" moments. There are 12 of them.
Kitchen under the coaster...

If you dare to take on Iron Gwazi, you'll find lots of the Food & Wine Festival foods just around the corner.
Leave room for dessert...

The dessert options include a Bavarian Fruit Punch Trifle topped with coconut!
Savory and sweet...

Something for everyone.
Lots to try!

You can buy the Food & Wine festival menu options individually or buy a punch card which lets you try a few more with a discount.
Food & Wine... and Music

This weekend also kicks off the Busch Gardens Food & Wine Festival. Besides the food and drink, there are a bunch of concerts that are free with park admission.
Lots of booths with different options...

Deep fried or keto friendly, there's a little bit of everything on the menu this year.
Corny

The street corn looked fantastic but I was already too full to try it this visit.
Not so impossible...

Vegetarian options like the Impossible Burger are on the menu this year.

Riding Gwazi in the daytime is terrifying but exciting. At night, it's dreamlike. I loved it.
Food and Wine or Wine and Food?

You decide.
Passports are out...

The ride has been on the radar of roller coaster enthusiasts around the world.

Hair and Make-Up Brought to You By Yellow Cab

Event Before the Premiere at the Roxy Hotel

We just caught the tail end of this since we were so late getting into the city.
Spike Lee Chats After the Film

Spike shared a story about having breakfast with Derek early on in his career and said it showed a lot about his character because he could have blown him off.
Post-Premiere Chat

Derek Jeter and the director of the film, Randy Wilkins, were interviewed after Part 1 of the documentary to discuss some behind-the-scenes.
Good night, Big Apple.

When you're in the city on such a short trip, you have to make the most of it. This is the view from my room at around 2:00 A.M. Can't remember the last time I stayed up that late.
Goodmorning, NYC!

Up and at 'em early to catch our flight back to Tampa.
Headed to Airport

No sleep...need more coffee. Obligatory photo in front of our "Roxy" hotel.
