With so many places to brunch in Tampa, a lot of underrated spots go unnoticed. The term ‘brunch’ has been around since I was a kid in the late sixties and early seventies, but back then, it was pretty much the exclusive domain of two very different groups: church goers and those who drank too much the night before. Families, along with friends and neighbors, got together after church for a meal that would hold them until dinner, or sometimes it was even the main meal of the day. For those who tied one on the night before, and couldn’t drag their butts out of bed in time for breakfast, brunch became the perfect hangover remedy.
That’s all changed in the past 20 years, with a renewed desire to get together for a shared experience in a relaxed environment that doesn’t keep you out all night. The rise in popularity of getting together for brunch is more than a millennial trend. Look around the next time you go to brunch, and you’ll see cell phones are more often used to commemorate the occasion with selfies than to squash the chit-chat. The rise of brunch spots reminds us in these busy days about the simple pleasure of human interaction. In this tech-driven culture, it’s a welcome respite.
Restauranteurs have seized on the opportunity, and now there is no shortage of breakfast/brunch-only restaurants like First Watch, or fine dining establishments that feature a separate weekend brunch menu such as Olivia. Those are two of the best places In South Tampa for brunch.

Here are 7 underrated brunch spots in South Tampa
The Brunchery
If you're bold enough to call yourself The Brunchery, you better deliver, and that's exactly what they've been doing since 1985. Stop in for a bite on MacDill in Palma Ceia, or take advantage of their catering service for a private event. From sweets to salads, omelettes to burgers, The Brunchery has you covered. Check out the mouthwatering menu here.
Goody Goody
Goody Goody was a Tampa institution from 1925 until 2005, and in recent years, Richard Gonzmart of Columbia Restaurant fame rebuilt, reopened and revitalized Goody Goody in the heart of Hyde Park Village. Best known for its burgers, Goody Goody is also an award-winning breakfast and brunch joint.
Jackson's Bistro
This landmark waterfront restaurant on Harbor Island prides itself on sushi, but it's also well-known for its epic brunch menu served Saturdays and Sundays. Enjoy adult libations and an unparalleled menu ranging from crab cake or ropa veija Benedict to pancakes featuring bourbon and bacon. There are plenty of signature sushi items, too. See more here.
Boozy Pig
A lot of people don't think to go to a butchery for brunch, but they should! The Boozy Pig has some of the best meaty breakfast meals as well as some classics! Check out their menu here.
The Breakfast House
Okay, The Breakfast House is in Sarasota, not South Tampa, but it's so good I couldn't resist. Located in a rehabbed bungalow on Fruitville Road near downtown, The Breakfast House has practically reinvented pancakes. There aren't too many restaurants I'm willing to drive 90 minutes to reach, but this is one of them!
Himes Breakfast House
Located just behind Britton Plaza on Himes, the parking lot is full until closing time at 2:00pm Tuesday through Sunday. Himes Breakfast House has a smaller menu than some brunch places, but there are some unique surprises, like their lemon ricotta pancakes and fried catfish. The service is consistently terrific.
Daily Eats
Daily Eats is a classic diner in every sense. The atmosphere, and the menu will send you straight back to your childhood. See what awaits you right here.
