According to WalletHub, Black Friday isn’t what it used to be. In 2022, 130.2 million shoppers went online to make purchases where as 122.7 million hit the ground running, in stores. Shoppers used to have to wait in lines, starting late on Thanksgiving night. Over the past few years, deals have started as early as October making the rush and excitement of Black Friday not as intriguing.
How did WalletHub determine who had the best Black Friday deals?
WalletHub set out to answer the question, “which stores offer the best discounts, and for which items?” They surveyed over 3,500 deals across the 13 biggest retailers advertisements. Then, they put together the list of stores that offered the largest discounts advertised in different product categories.
They looked at categories such as apparel and accessories, computers & phones, toys, appliances, furniture, jewelry and more. The average discount was determined based on the pre-discounted price of the item to factor in retailers that were discounting more expensive products. WalletHub took the deals and organized them into the 9 product categories we listed above. They calculated the averages by only looking at the retailers with “at least five discounted items in that particular category.”
There were 140 total deals included in the calculations. Unlike years past, retailers were opting for several different markdown dates throughout the month.
