As a life-long Tampa Bay Buccaneer Fan, I can’t wait for the season to start. The Buccaneers released their “themes” for each home game.

Looks like they’ve got some exciting stuff planned. Game analysts aren’t predicting a winning season for the Bucs, but they know how to throw a party at Ray Jay for every home game so that will keep things fun. And I’m looking forward to this season because it feels like a throw-back season since we’ll be playing the NFC North teams, and it will feel like the old days when the Bucs were in the “Black and Blue” division with them.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Game Themes

Here’s a look at the schedule in chronological order, and then I’ll rank them in terms of what theme I’m most pumped about.

September 17th at 1:00 against the Chicago Bears: Welcome Back to Football
September 25th at 7:15 against the Philadelphia Eagles: Ronde Barber H.O.F.
October 15th at 1:00 against the Detroit Lions: Creamsicle
October 22nd at 1:00 against the Atlanta Falcons: Crucial Catch
November 12th at 1:00 against the Tennessee Titans: Salute to Service
December 3rd at 1:00 against the Carolina Panthers: My Cause My Cleats
December 24th at 4:05 against the Jacksonville jaguars: Inspire Change
December 31st at 1:00 against the New Orleans Saints: Thank You Fans

As I mentioned, it was hard to pick favorites. I based it mostly on the theme, but I also had to take into consideration the match-up and the time during the season in which the game is being played (for holiday and weather analysis). I’m overall trying to picture how amped the stadium will be for each of these particular games. When the vibe will be the best.

Here’s my analysis of the game themes from the week I’m most excited about to the least, but I’m actually excited about all of them!

  • Week 10 vs. Tennessee Titans: Salute to Service

When the Bucs host the Titans, they’ll be featuring their annual “Salute to Service.” The Bucs and the fans at Ray Jay will honor men and women who served in the armed forces and their families, as well as veterans. This earns the topspot because what I’ve always loved most about sports is the time we take during games to honor our country and the people who’ve made the ultimate sacrifices for our freedom. This game will undoubtedly feature an incredible fly-over, as well, which I always love.

It will be Week 10 of the season. As we know, the Bucs aren’t expected to have a stellar season, but maybe we won’t be eliminated from the playoffs quite yet in week 10. We’ll be saying “so you’re saying there’s a chance…”

  • Week 3 vs. Philadelphia Eagles: Rondé Barber HOF Game

Week 3 and optimism about the season could still be there. Too early to rule anything out.

But this is an extra special game because Hall of Famer Ronde Barber will be honored at the game.

I can remember exactly where I was when he made his 92-yard interception return for a touchdown against the Eagles in the 2002 NFC Championship game. I get chills recalling it in my mind. A truly pivotal moment for the franchise.

  • Week 16 - Christmas Eve vs. Jacksonville Jaguars: Inspire Change – Holiday

The Bucs have two road games and then follow with this Christmas Eve game agains the Jaguars.

It’a a Christmas Eve celebration at Ray Jay with a fun Inspire Change theme. Love this time of year no matter if the Bucs are playoff-bound or not. It will have a fun, festive holiday vibe.

  • Week 7 vs. Atlanta Falcons: Crucial Catch – Breast Cancer Awareness

“Crucial Catch” is the theme for the Bucs game against the Falcons.

It will be emotional because this theme is about fighting against breast cancer and bringing awareness to research. Players, coaches and fans have all lost loved ones to this dreaded disease, and so we all want to come together in support.

  • Week 6 vs. Detroit Lions: Creamsicle

While the creamsicle theme will be fun, do we really love creamsicle so much since we didn’t exactly win a ton of games in creamsicle?

And October 1 P.M. game? Fans will be hot and suppressed. Might affect the vibe.

  • Week 2 vs. Chicago Bears: Back to Football

You’d think a home-opener “Welcome Back to Football” theme would rank higher. But because the Bucs aren’t expected to have a great season, this game may lack the enthusiasm that we’ve seen at home openers in the past.

  • Week 13 vs. Carolina Panthers: My Cause My Cleats

“My Cause, My Cleats” is a great theme where players highlight organizations they are passionate about.

But this game ranks in the bottom half because by Week 13, we will probably have to accept that the Bucs won’t go to the post-season (maybe even earlier).
Highlighting the power of athletes as agents of positive change, Buccaneers players and other players from around the league will wear customized cleats featuring unique designs that represent a diverse array of charitable organizations.

  • Week 17 - New Year's Eve vs. New Orleans Saints: Thank You Fans

The final home game is scheduled for New Year’s Eve. The theme is “Thank you fans.”

If the season goes as many predict, the “thank you to fans” might include “thank you for putting up with us.” With it being a NYE game, some folks may skip the game and make other plans. Might be low energy in the stands. Although I certainly hope not.
