Carlos Santana on What Inspired His New Album with the Isley Brothers
Just out today (July 28) is Power Of Peace, a joint album between Santana and the Isley Brothers.
Carlos Santana tells us the set is something he’s wanted to do for years, ever since he and his current wife (and Santana band drummer) Cindy Blackman Santana danced to Ronald Isley‘s recording of Burt Bacharach‘s “The Look Of Love” at their wedding in 2010:
“Something just grew in me to reach out…Somebody found that…Cindy and I are totally Ronald Isley fans, so he came to visit us in St. Louis and that’s what it started. I said, ‘Look, I want to do a record with you, a CD with you.’ And that’s how it started. But I think it goes all the way back to when we got married; It was the first song we danced to.”
Isley also sang on a pair of songs for the Santana IV album reuniting that band’s original lineup last year. Santana is currently on the road, while the guitarist has voiced hopes to do some shows with the Isley Brothers in the future.
