Tampa Bay Buccaneers Sign The Highest Paid DB In The NFL
For years, there has been one player that has worked tirelessly to prove his worth. We’ve watched him get snubbed out of pro bowls, robbed of all-pro honors, and slighted out of winning Defensive Player of the Year. All these things would most likely discourage any ordinary person, but not Antoine Winfield. And it finally paid off. Antoine Winfield is now the highest paid DB in the NFL.
The Deal
According to NFL.com, The safety agreed to a four-year, $84.1 million deal with the Bucs on Monday, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported. Out of the 84 million, $45 million is guaranteed and makes him the highest-paid defensive back in the NFL, which is the first time in the NFL’s history that the title is being held by a safety. This deals comes just a few months after Winfield was franchise tagged and a bunch of negotiating by his agent David Mulugheta.
Mulugheta posted his and Winfield’s reaction while writing “Couldn’t be happier to make this call and let @antoinewinfieldjr know he just made HISTORY! The first time that a safety is the highest paid defensive back in the NFL. In a year where the value of safeties has been questioned, the Buccaneer Organization, the Glazer Family and GM Jason Licht have stepped up and taken care of one of their most valuable family members.
Congratulations Antoine, you have accomplished something that has never been done before. You will forever be etched in history as the first. I appreciate your trust and cannot wait to see you back on the field.”
Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2024 Offseason Moves
The Buccaneers have had an active offseason signing many of their key players that could have left to free agency. They have signed Baker Mayfield (three-year, $100 million deal), Mike Evans (three-year, $100 million deal), Jordan Whitehead (two-year deal for $9 million), and Lavonte David (1 year worth up to $10 million) just to name a few. With the addition of Antoine Winfield, many believe the Bucs are close to complete.
Who do you think the Bucs need to sign next?
