Stevie Nicks and the Moon Necklace She Gifts to People
Stevie Nicks works in mysterious ways. Sure, that’s very much stating the obvious, but one of the things the two-time Rock & Roll Hall of Famer does is gift a special necklace to people she considers “sisters of the moon.”
One of those sisters is actress Christina Applegate, who talked about her special necklace in a new interview with James Corden. Applegate explains that Nicks gives these unique necklaces with a moon charm to “part of her tribe of people that she loves.” Nicks has given these necklaces to a variety of people, including Taylor Swift, the Haim sisters, Make-a-Wish children and injured soldiers.
Applegate recalled seeing Chrissie Hynde backstage at one of her concerts recently. Hynde told Applegate, “Nice necklace.” Applegate said, “Thanks,” and then Hynde reached into her shirt and pulled out her moon necklace Nicks gifted to her. Hynde told Applegate, “I haven’t taken mine off,” and Applegate responded, “I haven’t either.”
Applegate concluded, with a laugh, “And then, she and I sat in the alley and talked for like an hour. It was like the coolest thing.”
A September 2020 piece from the Los Angeles Times reported that Nicks first started giving out these special moon necklaces in 1977. The piece noted, “Members of the coven — her ‘Sisters of the Moon’ — are told the moons are lucky charms and to pass them along to another in need, should the moment arise.”
While that sentiment is beautiful, it would be rather difficult to part with such a unique gift from an icon like Nicks.
Nicks Opens Up About a Recent Infection
Stevie Nicks was forced to postpone a show on July 6 in Glasgow and then performed in the Scotland city later that month.
During the show, the two-time Rock & Roll Hall of Famer went into detail about the infection that led to the show postponement.
Nicks addressed the crowd saying, “I don’t know what happened. I just got this weird infection, and it just went crazy … I finally just looked at my assistant — it was like 2 in the morning — and I said, ‘I think we need to go to emergency.'”
Nicks talked about how she and her staff were staying at a castle in Glasgow when this happened. Fortunately, they received help from the butler at the castle, who Nicks called a “wonderful man.”
She says, ” … [The butler] throws us in his BMW sedan, which is so great, and off we sped through the night to a hospital. And I was there for two days, and then they let me go back to the castle, and we canceled this show.”
Nicks concluded, ” … I would be damned if I wasn’t coming back here.”
Nicks still has two more postponed shows from her latest tour to make up, but they are months away. Those two dates are Sept. 24 in Grand Rapids, Mich. and Sept. 28 in Hershey, Pa.
