Robert Pattinson Officially Cast in ‘The Batman’
After much buzz two weeks ago, Warner Bros. has made it official with casting Robert Pattinson as the new Batman in the aptly titled film The Batman.
Per Variety, who initially reported Pattinson was in talks to play the DC Comics icon, the deal was just made final, and The Batman will begin pre-production this summer. The Batman is currently slated for release on June 25, 2021.
The film will be directed by Matt Reeves, who’s best known for his directing work on 2008’s Cloverfield and 2014’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and writing 2017’s War for the Planet of the Apes.
Ben Affleck, who played Batman in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and 2017’s Justice League, was originally tapped as director. However, he backed out of the film earlier this year and said during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, “I tried to direct a version of it and worked with a really good screenwriter but just couldn’t come up with a version. I couldn’t crack it and so I thought it’s time for someone else to take a shot at it. They got some really good people so I’m excited.”
