Swimming is a fun, healthy way to get your child active, however drowning is the leading cause of death for ages 1-4, behind birth defects. It’s essential to every family to teach your child early how to swim and about the importance of water safety. This summer is an opportunity to enroll children in water safety and swim lessons to build a lifelong, lifesaving skill.
ABC Action News recently reported that the number of drowning deaths is on the rise after a few years of declining. During the pandemic, the drowning incidents increased because public pools and swimming lessons were closed. The CDC reported that 4,500 people drowned each year from 2020 to 2022.
