Pinellas Sheriff And His K-9 Shot In Traffic Stop
On Friday afternoon a Pinellas Co Sheriff and his K-9 officer where shot during what was expected to be a routine traffic stop. The stop and shooting happened Friday around 1:50 a.m. near 3rd Avenue S and 26th Street near the Kenwood area of St. Petersburg.
According to the story on Action 10, officials say Elijah Johnson, 23, was pulled over for a traffic violation but fled from the officer when asked to produce his identification. At some point the suspect abandoned his car and at that time the K-9 officer Titan pursued. Titan was shot first then police said Johnson fired at Pinellas County sheriff’s Sgt. David Stang, who was in his vehicle helping stage a perimeter.
Officer Stang was shot twice in the shoulder and was being treated at Bayfront Health. He is in stable condition. And thankfully officer Titan was only wounded in the leg, and is also recovering nicely.
