A bolt of lightning out on Clearwater Beach on Sunday afternoon surprised everyone, as it struck one man directly and injured at least 7 others.

According to ABC Action News, a man in his forties was struck directly and immediately went into cardiac arrest. That man is currently in critical condition at Morton Plant Hospital. At least four others were also transported to Clearwater’s, Morton Plant.

Beach-goers should always take refuge when there is any kind of thunder and/or lightning. In meteorology school they teach us that lightning can strike you from up to 20 miles away. “When it roars… go in doors”.

Reports show that lifeguards left their towers at 12:30 pm on Sunday due to the weather change… and minutes later the 911 call came in about the lightning strike victims near Frenchy’s Rockaway Grill.
