Black Friday is still about 2 months away but retailers are thinking ahead and are ready to begin filling positions for the holiday rush.
And with America’s unemployment rate below 4%, I suppose these retailers think finding workers could be difficult. But that’s a good sign for the economy. Right? Of course!
Target announced this week that it needs to hire more than 130,000 temporary workers this year. But don’t let the word “temporary” deter you. Reportedly, last year Target hired around 120,000 workers for holiday help, yet retained more than 40% of those workers past the holiday season.
Target says they will pay $13 an hour to seasonal workers for the first time, and offer them discounts at Target stores.
UPS has also announced that they are expecting another record holiday season. They say they plan to hire 100,000 seasonal employees to support the anticipated increase in package volume.
Jim Barber, CEO of UPS says..“We expect another record peak season this year, with daily package deliveries nearly doubling compared to our average of 20 million per day. In order to make that happen, once again we’re recruiting about 100,000 people for some of the country’s best seasonal jobs.”
UPS says they are hiring drivers, driver helpers and package handlers for both full and part time positions. And UPS states that 35% of the seasonal positions they have filled in the past, have gone on to become permanent jobs. This is a great opportunity to get yourself into some really established companies.
