Tarpon Springs Cop Threatens Mass Shooting
If we are concerned about kids threatening mass shootings, then grown ups shouldn’t be using words that invoke that fear either… right?
Steve Bergren, a Detective with the Tarpon Springs Police Department, was allegedly talking with a fellow officer about a “coveted assignment” that he had hoped to get, saying that if he didn’t get the position, that there would be “an active shooter situation”.
As it turns out, Bergren did not get the assignment that he’d hoped for and his “active shooter” comments were passed along to higher-ups. Bergren wrote the police Chief saying that he was “just kidding”.
Unfortunately the Chief was not laughing. Bergren ended up resigning before the Chief could fire him. Now, shouldn’t this former officer undergo the same scrutiny, concern and follow-up that we give school children who imply the same?
