Peacock: Subscription Cost Tiers, Launch Dates Revealed

Peacock, the new streaming service from NBCUniversal, will soon be joining the fray of video streaming services available, and now consumers known a number of new details about the latest streaming platform.

NBCUniversal released a lengthy press release today (January 16), and here’s all of the important information you need to know:

What does it cost?

Peacock will be available in three tiers: Peacock Free, an ad-supported, zero-cost option with more than 7,500 hours of programming upon launch; Peacock Premium, an ad-supported option for $4.99/month that includes 15,000 hours of programming upon launch; and an ad-free version of Peacock Premium for $9.99/month.

Comcast and Cox subscribers will be able to access the ad-supported Peacock Premium for free through their cable provider, but they can upgrade to the ad-free version for $5/month. (Comcast is the parent company of NBCUniversal.)

When does it launch?

There are two launch dates for Peacock: Xfinity X1 and Flex Customers will be able to access their free Peacock Premium services on April 15. The service outside of those cable subscribers will be available nationally on July 15.

What popular TV shows will be available on Peacock?

A number of shows were newly announced to be available on Peacock, and they are: “Law and Order,” “Law and Order: SVU,” “Law and Order: Criminal Intent,” “Chicago Fire,” “Chicago P.D.,” “Chicago Med,” “Yellowstone,” “Two and a Half Men,” and “The George Lopez Show.”

Other shows previously announced include “30 Rock,” “Bates Motel,” “Battlestar Galactica,” “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” “Cheers,” “Chrisley Knows Best,” “Covert Affairs,” “Downton Abbey,” “Everybody Loves Raymond,” “Frasier,” “Friday Night Lights,” “House,” “Keeping Up with the Kardashians,” “King of Queens,” “Married…With Children,” “Monk,” “The Office,” “Parks and Recreation,” “Parenthood,” “Psych,” “Royal Pains,” “Saturday Night Live,” “Superstore,” and “Will & Grace.”

What movies will be available on Peacock?

Peacock will have the exclusive streaming rights of Universal Film’s 2020 releases including “Fast & Furious 9” and “Jurassic World 3.”

A number of popular Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Animation films will be available on Peacock including “American Pie,” “Bridesmaids,” “Knocked Up,” “Meet the Parents,” “Meet the Fockers,” “A Beautiful Mind,” “Back to the Future,” “Brokeback Mountain,” “Casino,” “Dallas Buyers Club,” “Do the Right Thing,” “Erin Brockovich,” “E.T. The Extra Terrestrial,” “Field of Dreams,” “Jaws,” “Mamma Mia!,” “Shrek,” “The Breakfast Club,” and franchises including “Bourne,” “Despicable Me,” and “Fast & Furious.”

What about Peacock’s original programming offerings?

A number of new original programs were announced today, and they are:

-A multi-year partnership with Kevin Hart’s Laugh Out Loud network, which includes an equity investment in the company, a first look deal with LOL, and the distribution of LOL’s catalog on the service. As part of the agreement, Laugh Out Loud will produce a Kevin Hart stand-up comedy special and an original interview series called “Hart to Heart,” and a series of short-form content exclusively for Peacock.

-A Tina Fey-produced original series “Girls5Eva,” about a one-hit-wonder girl group from the 90’s that reunites to give their pop star dreams one more shot.

– International series from NBCUniversal International Studios, including drama thriller “The Capture,” fresh off its rating success on the BBC in the UK, and comedy “LadyParts,” launching on Channel 4 in the U.K., as well as three highly anticipated new comedies from Sky Studios: “Intelligence” starring David Schwimmer, “Code 404,” and “Hitmen”; a racing series from Dale Earnhardt Jr.; and a behind-the-scenes documentary series that follows USA Basketball superstars on their journey to Tokyo, produced in partnership with the NBA.

-Four new series are now in development: “Expecting,” from Mindy Kaling, “Division One,” from Amy Poehler, “Clean Slate,” from Norman Lear and “MacGruber,” from Will Forte.

-Previously announced Peacock originals include “Rutherford Falls,” “Saved by the Bell,” “A.P. Bio,” “Punky Brewster,” and the movie spinoff “Psych 2: Lassie Come Home,” as well as dramas “Dr. Death,” “Battlestar Galactica,” “Brave New World,”“Angelyne,” and “Armas de Mujer.”

Any fun perks or extras?

Starting in July on Peacock Premium, NBC’s late-night talk shows will be streaming on Peacock beginning at 8 p.m. ET with “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” followed by “Late Night with Seth Meyers” at 9 p.m. ET.

Peacock will also feature exclusive live, daily coverage of the 2020 Summer Olympic Games.
