Peacock: Subscription Cost Tiers, Launch Dates Revealed
Peacock, the new streaming service from NBCUniversal, will soon be joining the fray of video streaming services available, and now consumers known a number of new details about the latest streaming platform.
NBCUniversal released a lengthy press release today (January 16), and here’s all of the important information you need to know:
What does it cost?
Peacock will be available in three tiers:Â Peacock Free, an ad-supported, zero-cost option with more than 7,500 hours of programming upon launch; Peacock Premium, an ad-supported option for $4.99/month that includes 15,000 hours of programming upon launch; and an ad-free version of Peacock Premium for $9.99/month.
Comcast and Cox subscribers will be able to access the ad-supported Peacock Premium for free through their cable provider, but they can upgrade to the ad-free version for $5/month. (Comcast is the parent company of NBCUniversal.)
When does it launch?
There are two launch dates for Peacock: Xfinity X1 and Flex Customers will be able to access their free Peacock Premium services on April 15. The service outside of those cable subscribers will be available nationally on July 15.
What popular TV shows will be available on Peacock?
A number of shows were newly announced to be available on Peacock, and they are: âLaw and Order,â âLaw and Order: SVU,â âLaw and Order: Criminal Intent,â âChicago Fire,â âChicago P.D.,â âChicago Med,â âYellowstone,â âTwo and a Half Men,â and âThe George Lopez Show.â
Other shows previously announced include â30 Rock,â âBates Motel,â âBattlestar Galactica,â âBrooklyn Nine-Nine,â âCheers,â âChrisley Knows Best,â âCovert Affairs,â âDownton Abbey,â âEverybody Loves Raymond,â âFrasier,â âFriday Night Lights,â âHouse,â âKeeping Up with the Kardashians,â âKing of Queens,â âMarriedâŚWith Children,â âMonk,â âThe Office,â âParks and Recreation,â âParenthood,â âPsych,â âRoyal Pains,â âSaturday Night Live,â âSuperstore,â and âWill & Grace.â
What movies will be available on Peacock?
Peacock will have the exclusive streaming rights of Universal Film’s 2020 releases including âFast & Furious 9â and âJurassic World 3.â
A number of popular Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Animation films will be available on Peacock including âAmerican Pie,â âBridesmaids,â âKnocked Up,â âMeet the Parents,â âMeet the Fockers,â âA Beautiful Mind,â âBack to the Future,â âBrokeback Mountain,â âCasino,â âDallas Buyers Club,â âDo the Right Thing,â âErin Brockovich,â âE.T. The Extra Terrestrial,â âField of Dreams,â âJaws,â âMamma Mia!,â âShrek,â âThe Breakfast Club,â and franchises including âBourne,â âDespicable Me,â and âFast & Furious.â
What about Peacock’s original programming offerings?
A number of new original programs were announced today, and they are:
-A multi-year partnership with Kevin Hartâs Laugh Out Loud network, which includes an equity investment in the company, a first look deal with LOL, and the distribution of LOLâs catalog on the service. As part of the agreement, Laugh Out Loud will produce a Kevin Hart stand-up comedy special and an original interview series called âHart to Heart,â and a series of short-form content exclusively for Peacock.
-A Tina Fey-produced original series âGirls5Eva,â about a one-hit-wonder girl group from the 90âs that reunites to give their pop star dreams one more shot.
– International series from NBCUniversal International Studios, including drama thriller âThe Capture,â fresh off its rating success on the BBC in the UK, and comedy âLadyParts,â launching on Channel 4 in the U.K., as well as three highly anticipated new comedies from Sky Studios: âIntelligenceâ starring David Schwimmer, âCode 404,â and âHitmenâ; a racing series from Dale Earnhardt Jr.; and a behind-the-scenes documentary series that follows USA Basketball superstars on their journey to Tokyo, produced in partnership with the NBA.
-Four new series are now in development: âExpecting,â from Mindy Kaling, âDivision One,â from Amy Poehler, âClean Slate,â from Norman Lear and âMacGruber,â from Will Forte.
-Previously announced Peacock originals include âRutherford Falls,â âSaved by the Bell,â âA.P. Bio,â âPunky Brewster,â and the movie spinoff âPsych 2: Lassie Come Home,â as well as dramas âDr. Death,â âBattlestar Galactica,â âBrave New World,ââAngelyne,â and âArmas de Mujer.â
Any fun perks or extras?
Starting in July on Peacock Premium, NBCâs late-night talk shows will be streaming on Peacock beginning at 8 p.m. ET with âThe Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,â followed by âLate Night with Seth Meyersâ at 9 p.m. ET.
Peacock will also feature exclusive live, daily coverage of the 2020 Summer Olympic Games.
