First Look at the ‘House of the Dragon’ for Game of Thrones Prequel
Debuting in the wee hours today (October 5) was the first teaser trailer for House of the Dragon, the highly anticipated Game of Thrones prequel.
Based on George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood, published in 2018, House of the Dragon is set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones. It’s the story of the Targaryen dynasty and the civil war that scorched the House’s history.
The teaser featured the first official footage from the highly anticipated series, which contained several previously announced cast members in addition to the following newly revealed cast:
Wil Johnson will play Ser Vaemond Velaryon, Younger brother to Coryls Velaryon (Sea Snake) and commander in the Velaryon navy. Children of the Sea Snake and Rhaenys Targaryen will be played by John Macmillan as Ser Laenor Velaryon, Savannah Steyn as Lady Laena Velayron and Theo Nate as Ser Laenor Velaryon.
Rhaenys was passed over for the Iron Throne in favor of Viserys simply for being born a woman.
Paddy Considine is King Viserys Targaryen, successor of King Jaehaerys Targaryen to sit upon the Iron Throne of Westeros. His first born, Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy), is a dragonrider, while his younger brother, Prince Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith), is heir to the throne.
“Gods, kings, fire, and blood. Dreams didn’t make us kings, dragons did,” Daemon says in the teaser.
Viserys’ Hand of the King is Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans), who sees Daemon as the greatest threat to the realm. Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke), Otto’s daughter, was raised in the Red Keep and had a friendship with Rhaenyra before things turned sour. Milly Alcock and Emily Carey will play young versions of Rhaenyra and Alicent, respectively.
Then there’s the “Sea Snake,” a.k.a. Lord Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint), one of the most famous nautical adventurers in Westeros history.
