British actor Henry Cavill attends "The Witcher" season 2 premiere at Kinepolis Cinema on December 9, 2021 in Madrid, Spain.

Henry Cavill is back as the Man of Steel, posting to social media on Monday (October 24) that he is “back as Superman” following a cameo in Black Adam.

“I wanted to wait until the weekend was over before posting this because I wanted to give you all a chance to watch Black Adam,” Cavill said in a video posted to his Instagram feed. “But now that plenty of you have, I wanted to make it official: I am back as Superman.”

Cavill said the image of him in the Superman suit that we see in his post and his Black Adam cameo “are just a very small taste of things to come.” The 39-year-old actor gave no further detail, but he did thank the fans for their enthusiastic response to his return. “There’s a lot to be thankful for, and I’ll get to that in time. Thank you for your support and thank you for your patience. I promise it will be rewarded.”

One fan commented, “I just got so emotional!!!!!! Omg our SUPERMAN!!!!! I’m so beyond happy and grateful you are back! We love you and support you to the end!!!!!!!!!!” Another wrote, “He is the reason why I became a fan of Superman.” Another excited fan wrote, “Yes yes yes yes yes! I am so hyped for this. You were, are and always will be the #Superman of my generation. I didn’t love the character that much until I saw Man of Steel. But with that movie I fell in love. I’m so happy you’re back and I can’t wait to see what’s next! #HenryCavillSuperman.” One more fan commented, “I’m in tears. Actual tears. I never gave up hope like so many others around the world. Thank you for never giving up the cape. We all love you as Superman and we are not done loving you. Thank you for keeping hope alive.”

The British actor first played Superman in 2013’s Man of Steel then in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, 2017’s Justice League, 2021’s Zack Snyder’s Justice League and a brief post-credits cameo in the recently released Black Adam.

Cavill also stars in Netflix’s fantasy series The Witcher as Geralt and plays Sherlock Holmes opposite Millie Bobby Brown in the Enola Holmes films.

Black Adam producer Hiram Garcia recently, along with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, said that the long-term vision for Black Adam includes a robust storyline involving Superman. “It’s never been about a one-off or just about a fight,” the producer said. “We really want to craft a long-form of storytelling and show that these two characters exist in the same universe and are going to have to deal with each other often, either on the same or opposite sides. Hopefully they’re going to clash at some point, but it’s not just about a ‘one fight’ situation.”
