It’s always a sad day to see another retrofitted Burger King get remodeled. One of the last vintage Burger Kings in Tampa Bay started renovations to transform into a modern restaurant.

The Burger King we’re talking about is the location at 23904 US Hwy 19 N in Clearwater, Florida. It was only a matter of time before the modern look took over and they came in with a redesign. While I am not a fan of the modern Burger King redesigns, the interior needed some refreshing.

What did the Burger King Look like?

This specific Burger King sported the classic slanted blue roof with the old-school Red Lettering across the front. It was lined with brick reminiscent of the 90s build and stood the test of time. The exterior overall was in great shape, but lacked any sort of “we’re open” type of feel.

The interior was classic. Brick floor with checkered-colored tiles along the cash registers. They had the classic white booths with dark red and blue cushions and of course, tables had red barred chairs. Overall, the color layout of this location was a bit bland with the brown walls, and felt more like a truckstop BK than a stand-alone restaurant.

What Burger King Remodels Should Really Look Like:

I’m not an expert on Burger King, but the new remodels definitely aren’t cutting it. Half the time you go to a Burger King, the inside is empty and the service isn’t great. The food is solid, but the modern designs aren’t built for comfort and don’t attract customers.

This old Burger King was found behind a wall inside a mall, looking virtually untouched. It was sealed off 14 years ago and circled the internet last year sparking new life into the dwindling chain. The world needs vintage Burger Kings more than ever.

Instead of turning Burger King into a wannabe airport lounge, why not transform it back into their looks from the glory days? Bring back the wooden booths with thick padding. Bring back the retro wall designs and the fake plants lining the inside of the stores. The modern build utilizes an intense amount of screens from kiosks to menus and is honestly just frustrating to use.  Unfortunately, if you were looking for vintage Burger Kings to visit in Tampa Bay, this seemed to be the last one.

In a time where people are looking to bring simplicity back into their lives, does Burger King hold the key?

Burger King in 2023 just hits different than it did in the 90s and 2000s. Like many fast food chains today, you’re greeted by an automated kiosk and modern seating that's capable of crushing dreams. We still love the food at Burger King, so we decided to rank the best Tampa Bay Burger King stores based on customer reviews. This is what we found.

Anything seemed possible back when the “McDonalds VS. Burger King” showdown was in its peak form. If you grew up in the 90s and 00s, this fast food chain was off the charts. Sure, there was the everlasting scent of stank feet, but between the play places, Surge, and new menu items, you could truly ‘Have It Your Way’.

Burger King isn't as popular as it once was, but if you’re looking to pick up one of those steamy burgers on sesame buns, thick cut fries, and an ice cold Surge, you’re in luck. There are exactly 20 locations left in the Tampa Bay area. The newly remodeled dining areas don’t bear a resemblance to the nostalgic feeling of the classic BK, but the food remains great.

How we determined the Tampa Burger King rankings:

We headed on over to https://www.bk.com/store-locator and typed in Tampa Bay. We wanted the search to include all of the locations within the Tampa Bay area. Next, we researched the amount of Google reviews each location had, their rating and looked into what people were saying.

Remember, these are not our reviews, we took into account what real people were saying about these locations to give you an accurate look into your local BKs. Keep in mind that people love to complain so we’re taking the reviews with a grain of salt.
