Is There Beef In Tampa Between Tom Brady And Baker Mayfield?
Is there beef in Tampa between Tom Brady and Baker Mayfield? Shots are being fired, and it doesn’t sound like the two have the best relationship.
It can be hard filling the shoes of the Greatest Of All-Time. That’s what Baker Mayfield had to do when he became the starting quarterback of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Baker made some comments that Tom heard, and he addressed them during the game. It sounds like there could be some beef between Tom Brady and Baker Mayfield!
What’s Going On Between Tom Brady And Baker Mayfield?
The Bucs looked fantastic yesterday (for the most part) as they beat the Philadelphia Eagles 33-16. Mayfield has been having a stellar season at quarterback, but it wasn’t his play on Sunday that got all the attention. Instead, it was focused on some comments he made about the Bucs under his leadership compared to Tom Brady. Well, Tom got word of that, and it sounds like he did not like it.
According to NBC News, Baker said, “The building was a little bit different with Tom in there. Obviously, playing-wise, Tom is different. He had everybody dialed in, high-strung environment, so I think everybody was pretty stressed out. They wanted me to come in, by myself, bring the joy back to football for guys who weren’t having as much fun.” Is that a shot at Tom for being ruthless and controlling? It does sound like he’s accusing Tom of running a tight ship and throwing some teammates under the bus who played with both of them. Word got back to Tom, and he shot back at Baker saying, “I thought stressful was not having Super Bowl rings. There was a mindset of a champion that I took to work every day. This wasn’t daycare. If I wanted to have fun, I was gonna go to Disneyland with my kids,” per NBC News. That’s a fantastic comeback.
I’m sure Baker didn’t mean anything against Tom with his comments. He was probably just trying to talk about what a great locker room they have and how the vibe is great. However, you have to be aware of how what you say is going to come off, and he didn’t here. Obviously, this was going to be taken and run with. Baker has had a bit of a problem running his mouth when he shouldn’t dating back to his Cleveland Browns days. However, you have to know Tom’s approach was different. There was a different standard and expectations that came with having Tom Brady as your quarterback.
It sounds like Baker heard the controversy he accidentally started and did backtrack a little. After the game, Baker said, “I think a lot of that got taken out of context, and none of it was personal by any means. It’s just what he demanded of the guys, and that’s the aura of Tom Brady. And that’s what he did to bring a championship here,” per ESPN. Hopefully Tom Brady and Baker Mayfield can squash the beef and move on. The Bucs take on the New Orleans Saints for an in-division game on Thursday Night Football, October 3rd.
