Tonight will be my third time hosting Freestyle Explosion. This concert is kind of like our Christmas on the Saturday Night Dance Party. It’s a non-stop rollercoaster ride of classic throwback jams that take you back to a time when life was so much more fun! Hope you can take the ride with us at Amalie Arena. These are the 10 jams you’ll see me dancing like a fool to on the side of the stage.

  • #10: A Day In My Life Without You

Gotta be honest. Until I got to see Lisette Melendez at Freestyle Explosion in Orlando, it never crossed my mind this was her song. I knew it. I love it. But for some reason I always considered Lisette a one hit wonder. Together Forever is one of my favorite jams we play on the SNDP but “A Day In My Life Without You” is one of those club gems that somehow got lost in time. We never get requests for it, but it’s so good. I think many like me kind of blend this song and “Together Forever” as one song in our minds.

  • #9: I Still Believe

I got to see Brenda K Starr in Daytona last summer.  Her voice is phenomenal.  Wait til you hear her belt this one out tonight… so much heart and passion.

  • #8: Silent Morning

This will be Noel’s first Tampa performance since getting into a horrible motorcycle accident a couple years ago.  I’ll never forget being on the phone with DJ Slice from Stevie B’s crew.  It wasn’t clear if Noel would survive the crash.  Now he’s back on stage and seems better than ever.

  • #7: You Got It All

The Jets were so good 3 years ago at USF.  I’m so glad they’re on the lineup tonight.  This song takes me back to my days as a kid when I first started listening to the radio.

  • #6: Take Me In Your Arms

This will be my first time getting to see Lil Suzy perform.  This one’s always been a favorite of mine.  I never got to play it on the radio until I took over the Saturday Night Dance Party.  But I remember visiting Florida from Boston when this song was popular and hoping it would come on the radio.  I’d always rent a convertible and crank up an Orlando radio station called 95.3 Party.  We didn’t have music like this up in Boston so this song is so closely identified with Florida to me.

  • #5: Supersonic

I can’t believe after all these years that tonight will be my first time getting to see J.J. Fad. Can’t wait!

  • #4: All Cried Out

When I had Lisa on the show this month, I asked her what song takes her back like this one does for us.  She said it’s this one for her too.

  • #3: Rapper's Delight

I had a tough time picking this one or Apache.  Both are gonna make me go wild.

  • #2: Come Baby Come

I love TKA.  “Maria” is a classic that will never get old for me.  But when K7 busts out his solo hit “Come Baby Come,” I need to stay BEHIND the curtain tonight.  Last year, a couple listeners filmed me dancing like a fool and posted it.

  • #1: I Wanna Be The One

Only the dummies will leave early to beat the traffic.  Because the main event of the night tonight will be when  Stevie B wraps up the concert with “Spring Love.”  And I love the song.  But for me, “I Wanna Be The One” will forever be my favorite Stevie jam.
