Over 100 new laws will go on the books Friday. 149 of the 280 bills sent to the governor passed. Some went into effect immediately. From changes in education to strawberry shortcake, here are 10 of the laws going into effect Friday, July 1, 2022.

• Strawberry Shortcake

  In the most important piece of legislation in the history of the Sunshine State, Strawberry Shortcake becomes Florida's official state dessert. Sorry Key Lime Pie.

• Sales Tax Holidays

  It's not just for back to school and hurricanes anymore. There will be a one month suspension of the tax on gas in October and on work-related items during the week of Labor Day.

• Term Limits

  Country school board members can serve no longer than 12 years.
• Prescriptions

  Share

  More drugs will be able to be prescribed via those telemedicine visits.

• Youth Crime Records

  Share

  Minors will have more chances to wipe the slate clean on their record if they complete diversion programs.

• Race History

  Share

  New restrictions will be in place about what can be taught about history. Those for it say it is designed to not make kids feel guilt over what happened in our past. Opponents said it is just aimed to obscure the ugliest parts of our history.
• Online Ransom

  Share

  Local governments are prohibited from making those payouts to ransomware criminals.

• Bonus Checks

  Share

  There will be a $5,000 incentive to bring in cops from other states. A $1,000 bonus will be given to law enforcement and first responders in Florida.

• Abortion rights

  This one could get overturned in the courts but a measure was passed preventing abortions after 15 weeks.
• Financial Literacy For High School Students

  Share

  Starting in the 2023 school year, kids will have to learn about bank accounts, credit cards, how to do taxes and invest.
