Pinellas County is known for many things from the Dali Museum to sandy beaches, to fresh, succulent seafood. Now, you really need to add the exploding, incredible craft beer scene to the list of things we can brag about. The truth is, Pinellas County is full of world-class breweries and fantastic, unforgettable beer.

In just the last ten years, St. Pete has come to be viewed by many as Florida’s top stop for craft breweries – with roughly 20 breweries, ranging from the small-scale micro-brewery, “If I Brewed the World” in the Grand Central District, to the national brewer, “Sea Dog Brew Company,” which has spread from Maine all the way to Treasure Island. Many of St. Pete’s craft breweries are located on, or close to the water, so it’s easy to enjoy a bit of bar-hopping to get out of the heat.

St. Pete isn’t the only city in Pinellas getting attention these days. You might recognize “Big Storm Brewing Co.” for its IPAs, pilsners and ales, because taproom locations span from the original in Clearwater all the way to Odessa, but the company recently earned top-honors for its distilled spirits. The New York International Spirits Competition named Big Storm as the ‘Florida Distillery of the Year’ last month.

Before you get too thirsty, let’s check out some of the best breweries in Pinellas County.

  • If I Brewed The World

This small batch microbrewery specializes in fun and eclectic flavor profiles. In the heart of the Grand Central District, the doors are open Thursday through Sunday. Read more here.

  • Sea Dog Brewing Co.

Sea Dog’s beers are brewed in a traditional style using imported English two-row malted barley for ales and imported German hops and grains for lagers.  Stop by on Treasure Island, or learn more here.

Big Storm is based in Clearwater, but now also has taprooms in Odessa, Cape Coral and Orlando.  Since its founding in 2012, Big Storm has developed a solid lineup of Florida favorites including golden ales, IPAs and world-class spirits, all while becoming a leader in the craft beer industry.  See all they have to offer here.

  • 3 Daughters Brewing

This Clearwater brewery began when a couple working in a St. Pete restaurant were perfecting their fish and chips beer batter with their own hand-crafted brews.  The rest is history, and you can see what they offer here.

  • Dunedin Brewery

Brewing since 1996, Dunedin Brewery is the oldest microbrewery in Florida.  It’s not just about well-crafted brews.  It’s a vibe that can’t be replicated anywhere else with a vibrant art scene and live music nightly.  Read about it here.
