Even though its pretty hot outside right now, summer of almost here.  The hot and humid Florida that all know and love will soon be with us again.  Summer doesn’t officially “start” until June 21, 2023, any body who’s been in the area for any amount of time will tell you the stifling heat is here much sooner. While we all have our tips and tricks to keep ourselves cool during the summer, some ideas are just more delicious than others. What’s the best way to beat the summer heat? To cool down with some home-made ice cream. Here are 3 iconic Tampa ice cream spots you need to visit this summer.

Thus, I present to you my list of three really iconic ice cream places in the city of Tampa. These places are iconic because they have been serving the Bay Area for decades. The locations are not some fancy fly by night trendy ice dream stand, these are ICONIC. Now, I will have you know, that I am an expert of sorts on this matter, because I have been to each of these places at least a dozen times each over the years.  Take from me, first hand, these places live up to their iconic status.

First, I want to start with an Honorable Mention, Campbell’s Dairyland in Brandon it a great place, a very iconic place that has been serving Brandon residents ice cream and frozen treats for generations and they are certainly worth the trip. But for this list I am only sticking to the City of Tampa, so here it goes, in no particular order…

  • Tanya and Matt's Ice Creamiest

    Tanya and Matt’s Ice creamiest is a Northdale destination.  Located on North Dale Mary, in the Northdale Promenade, they have over 40 flavors and offer an  “Out of this world” experience. Check out more here.

  • Bo's Ice Cream

    Tampa’s iconic Bo’s Ice Cream, located at 7101 N Florida Ave. in Old Seminole Heights, is a legendary soft serve stand,  Bo’s has walk up counter service and is worth the trip. Their menu is pretty simple, meaning they’re not going to have crazy flavors. But the homemade classics are still worth it.

  • Dairy Joy

    Dairy Joy is a family-owned, old-fashioned ice cream shop located in South Tampa serving sweet treats since 1958. They have a robust menu full of cool treats any time of the year.
