A flight that landed at Tampa International Airport carried a group of passengers from… Tampa. Wait, what?

Yes, as confusing as that may sound, it wasn’t a flight that turned around. Tampa, Florida, is not the only Tampa in the U.S. There were 95 passengers visiting Tampa from Tampa, Kansas. They were invited to visit for the chance to see what their Floridian counterpart has to offer.

The entire population of Tampa, Kansas, was invited by Visit Tampa Bay and Southwest Airlines. Nearly the entire town took them up on the opportunity to spend the holidays in Florida.

Christ Minner, Tampa International Airport‘s Executive Vice President of Marketing and Communications said:

“We want to welcome our Kansas cousins for what is sure to be the trip of a lifetime. TPA is proud to be able to give this group its first impression of not just our Tampa, but the entire Tampa Bay region.”

The visitors were given stays at the Floridan Palace Hotel. They made visits to Busch Gardens and ZooTampa at Lowry Park. They were also given Tampa Riverwalk attraction passes to the Florida Aquarium, Tampa Museum of Art and the Glazer Children’s Museum.

  • Landing at Tampa International Airport was the first the residents from Kansas saw of Tampa.

  • Among the stops was Winter Village at Curtis Hixon Park

  • A group of the visitors sent a thank you message

Thank you so much for rolling out the red carpet for us, Tampa Bay! What an amazing time we had. The food, the activities & the entertainment was endless. It was an area where as a family, a couple or as an individual, we had so much to do and see. This amazing trip wouldn’t have been possible without Visit Tampa Bay and their amazing partners: Southwest Airlines, Tampa International Airport, Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, ZooTampa at Lowry Park, Tampa Downtown Partnership & Winter Village at Curtis Hixon Park. We had such a great time and there’s not a member of our Tampa, KS group that isn’t wanting to get back there as soon as possible! #Tampa2Tampa
