Watch Out For Jury Duty Scam
A warning was issued by the U.S. Marshals Servirce on Tuesday. Con artists are posing as federal officials to scare victims into paying fines they don’t actually owe.
Here’s how it works. A scammer calls and says they need a payment for a fine for not showing up for jury duty. Some have even said to the victim that if they pay with a prepaid debit or gift card, that will work.
Call the U.S. Marshals Tampa District Office if you think you’ve been scammed at 813-483-4200.
