Think Your Pet’s Bowl Is Clean?
How often do you think your pet’s bowl should be cleaned?
You may be surprised to find out you aren’t washing the bowls often enough. According to an article published in Apartment Therapy, pet bowls (both food and water bowls) are the fourth germiest thing in your house.
Experts at NSF International say that pet bowls should be sanitized daily in the dishwasher, or scrubbed by hand in hot soapy water, rinsed well and left to air dry. And if hand washing, they say you should put them through the dishwasher at least once a week or left to soak in bleach water.
Lets face it, pet bowls can get pretty disgusting by the end of the week if we are too lazy to wash them. They are the breeders bad things like salmonella, E. coli, staph, maybe even parasites like giardia. And at minimum, the bowls collect more everyday things like dust and mold. Would you want to eat out of that? Well, neither do your beloved pets. While they may still gobble the food without hesitation, you may be exposing them to all sorts of health issues.
So, do something nice for your four-legged, fur-baby and wash his bowls everyday. You might even get some extra kisses for your effort. You know, if they had thumbs… they’d do it for you.
