Could Tampa Be A High-Speed Train Hub
According to WESH.com, officials have broken ground on a new phase of a private train line that will connect South Florida to Central Florida.
Virgin Trains USA, formerly known as Brightline, held groundbreaking ceremonies Monday at the Orlando International Airport. The festivities celebrated the opening of construction of “Phase 2” of the line that will run from Miami to Orlando, and eventually to Tampa, if all goes as planned. Check out the video from CBS Miami:
Virgin Trains already has a line from Miami to West Palm Beach. The new phase will connect South Florida to Orlando International Airport on 170 miles of track. It represents a $4 billion investment by Virgin Trains, which is backed by Fortress Investment Group.
This new phase is expected to be completed by 2022. And the line to Tampa is hoped to be under construction soon after that.
