Clearwater’s New Underwater Park (VIDEO)
The City of Clearwater is unveiling it’s new underwater park, Circle of Heroes.
Circle of Heroes is an underwater veteran’s memorial that is the first of its kind and it is located right offshore of Clearwater Beach in what will now be known as Veteran’s Reef.
A dozen statues depicting various members of the U.S. military were recently lowered into the Gulf of Mexico some 10 miles off the coast, in 40 feet of water.
The morning of Monday August 5th., was the dedication of the 100 foot grouping of life-sized statues representing all branches of the armed forces.
According to Tampa bay Times, the statues are just the first half of a total of 24 statues that will make up the Circle of Heroes underwater veteran’s memorial. An additional 12 statues are slated to be set sometime in 2020.
Boaters were invited to attend the event, which included a first dive by local veterans. There was also an invitation to ride out on a charted craft at vetmemorial.org.
