The Florida Department of Health in Hillsborough County has issued a health advisory for Davis Island Beach due to a potential bacteria risk.
FDH of Hillsborough County report that samples taken on Wednesday, were above the threshold for enterococci bacteria.
According to the Florida Department of Health, Enterococci bacteria can usually be found in the intestinal tracts of humans and animals. In high concentrations, it can cause human diseases, infections or rashes. It can be an indication of fecal pollution from storm-water runoff, pets, wildlife and human sewage.
The Department of Health says they will sample water again on Wednesday, October 23rd. and the advisory will be lifted only after re-sampling data shows the water is within a satisfactory range.
