Traffic On U.S. 19 In Pinellas County Is Going To Get Worse
Depending on where you live, this may or may not be good news for you!
According to ABC Action News, the Florida Department of Transportation is planning on adding more overpasses to U.S. 19 North, in Pinellas County.
The new overpass will be coming to the stretch from Main Street (SR 580) to just north of Curlew Road, which is just north of the Countryside Mall area.
The preposed design will be similar to those further south on U.S. 19 in Clearwater. The design will include a median barrier that will require drivers to make turns on to frontage roads and interchanges.
Plans include a pedestrian underpass between Evans Road and Republic Drive. FDOT says they hope that this new feature will allow pedestrians access to cross U.S. 19.
These changes come after a deadly accident on U.S. 19 in Clearwater that brought about discussions on whether left-hand turns should be eliminated on the busy stretch of highway.
According to officials, construction is already funded and expected to start late Fall 2021.
