Tampa Bay Has The #1 Most Affordable Airport In America
With spring break right around the corner, millions of Americans are looking to cut loose and escape reality. You’ll have to dish out more cash for your flights than before 2020, but Florida’s got you covered. Three Florida airports were named the most affordable airports in America and one of them is right here in Tampa Bay.
FarAndWide recently released their list of the 10 most affordable airports in the country and unexpectedly, Florida tops the list. Air travel prices vary day to day and unless you’re a travel agent, there’s almost no way of predicting when to find the best deals.
To put together this list, FarAndWide determined the “affordability” of flights based on the local wage levels. They looked at how many hours of work it would take to purchase a ticket within each market.
What are the most affordable airports?
Air travel prices depend on many factors. Where you’re flying to, when you’re arriving/returning, and what type of seat you purchase. Coming in at the #10 spot, we have LaGuardia Airport in New York, and would take an estimated 8.81 hours to purchase a domestic ticket.
Hilo International in Hawaii comes in at #8 with an average of 6.84 hours of work to purchase a ticket. There are only two airlines at Hilo, Southwest and Hawaiian, but this airport is on Hawaii’s Big Island.
Punta Gorda airport in Florida claims the #5 spot for affordability. Allegiant Air flies from Punta Gorda to 51 different destinations with Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana being the busiest routes.
Orlando Sanford International claims the #2 spot for affordability with an average of 5.5 hours of work to purchase a ticket. Further away from Disney, Orlando Sanford International has cheaper tickets than you’d find at Orlando’s main hub.
Claiming the #1 spot for most affordable airports in America is St.Pete-Clearwater International. This airport may be small, but if you’re looking to skip the chaos and take on “Tampa Bay the Easy Way”, this airport is it. St.Pete-Clearwater International has only 12 gates and is a short drive from anywhere within Tampa Bay.
