Lost Dog In Miami Was Found In Tampa After 6 Months
It’s always good to hear about a lost dog reuniting with its owners. These are the types of stories everyone likes to read about. A lost dog in Miami was found in Tampa this week and reunited with its owners after 6 months.
The Humane Society of Tampa Bay posted to their Facebook page this morning saying, “Ace showed up at HSTB as a stray a week ago. He was a very polite boy and thankfully, had a microchip! When the team reached out to his owners they filled in the rest of his story. Ace escaped their yard in MIAMI in DECEMBER! … They were so overjoyed and hopped in their car to make the drive to Tampa to reclaim Ace.”
Ace traveled pretty far over the last few months. Depending on the route he took, Ace could’ve ventured through some of the toughest terrain in Florida likely dodging gators throughout Alligator Alley. Facebook users took to the comments to show their happiness that the owners were finally to reunite with Ace.
How Microchips Worked: Lost Dog In Miami Was Found In Tampa
The microchips found in dogs are about the size of a grain of rice. These chips don’t have batteries, but they are activated once a scanner passes over the microchipped area. The chip then shows the identification number and shows the registered owner.
A common misconception with these animal microchips is that they can be tracked with a GPS. These specific microchips cannot track down the animal if it gets lost with a GPS tracker.
Once your animal is picked up by someone like the Humane Society of Tampa, they can scan for the ID number. It displays the information that you gave to the chip registry like they did with Ace.
According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, over 10 million pets are lost or stolen every year in the USA. Over 52% of lost dogs that were brought to shelters, were returned safely to their owners. On the other hand, only 22% of non-microchipped lost dogs were returned to their owners.
We’re glad to see Ace, the lost dog in Miami that was found in Tampa and reunited with his family this week.
