How To Claim $500 If You Purchased Fruit At Walmart

Anyone who bought fruit at Walmart needs to listen up because the big retailer is about to be sending out hefty checks soon to customers. There's been many videos circulating online about Walmart's fluctuating prices specifically in their produce section. A new lawsuit is alleging that they have been overcharging at their pay-by-weight items on bagged fruit or other weighable items. This lawsuit doesn't just pertain to the state of Florida but all over the country.

In the lawsuit it claims that the retailer intentionally charged customers more than they should have for these products. Ultimately, resulting in a $45 million settlement that Walmart will soon distribute to it customers. According to WTVN, The lawsuit accuses Walmart of "false, misleading, unfair and deceptive conduct," claiming that the company "falsely inflates the product weight" to overcharge customers. Walmart has denied the allegations, but rather than fight them in court, felt that a settlement was "in the best interest of both parties." They settled so now it's time to pay up.

What kind of fruit and vegetables are we talking about exactly? The lawsuit includes bagged citrus from the store, like organic oranges, grapefruit, and tangerines that are generally sold in bulk wrapped in mesh. The purchase must have happened between October 18, 2018 and January 19, 2024, to be eligible. The same is true if you got any meat, pork, poultry or seafood products labeled with a price-embedded bar code and part of Walmart's Department 93 products.

You many think you need your receipt but that's not the case. However, if you do have your receipt, you can officially get back 2% back of the total cost and that adds up to $500. Now if you're like most people who don't keep their receipts from years ago you can still get money back. Without a receipt, you'll get $10 for 50 eligible items claimed and $15 for 51 to 75 items. If you bought a lot more fruits and vegetables you will get $20 for 76 to 100 items, or $25 for more than 101 eligible items. Unfortunately, this does exclude online and resale purchases. Walmart is my go to place for grocery shopping. They have everything you need at a low price and you’re not going to be paying $30 for 4 rolls of toilet paper. The low prices mixed with the late store hours make it a prime place to shop for almost anything. On the other hand, the low prices, late store hours, and size of the store are also what make it a trifecta blend of wild behavior … if you choose the wrong location.

Back in 2015, Port Richey’s Walmart was the hub of crime in the city. Nearly half of the crime taking place in Port Richey was at the local Walmart. Did they have low prices? Absolutely, but price cuts probably weren’t the only cuts you’d be leaving with. 

You can’t focus on the good without acknowledging the bad. There are a lot of very nice Walmarts out there. Some might disagree, but I know what I’ve seen. If the shelves are stocked, the aisles are fairly clean, and the restrooms are usable, you’re having a good Walmart experience.

The Nebraska Ave Walmart (located at 15302 N Nebraska Ave Tampa, FL 33613) was one of the top choices by users and has a 4.1/5 stars on Google. One user on Yelp wrote that they drive the extra 15 minutes just to visit this location because they live near Fletcher ... we'll get to that one later.

Located at 1720 E Hillsborough Ave Tampa, FL 33610, the "Hillsborough & 22nd Ave" Walmart averages a 3.8/5 stars on Google.  One shopper said that they were able to get in and out very quickly with no problems at all.  That is really all you can ask for in a good shopping experience.

Located at 3801 Tampa Rd, Oldsmar, FL, this Walmart location is known for its cleanliness and easy shopping. It is further out from the city, but was highly recommended from those that are living downtown. This location averages a 4.1/5 stars on Google. One complaint is that the pickup was not great, so do keep that in mind.

This is one of the nicest Walmart's in Tampa. The Cadillac of Walmart shopping experiences. Located at 6192 Gunn HWY, Tampa, FL and has an average of 4.1/5 stars on Google. Checkout this  review  for up to date photos and paragraphs of good words. Grab a Charley's Cheesesteak as you browse the store.

Fletcher Ave was by far the most downvoted location. With over 10,000 reviews on Google, it comes in at 3.7/5 stars. This may not sound bad, but the reviews speak for themselves. One user wrote on our Facebook page, "Fletcher should have a jail attached to it". The people watching may be as good as it gets, but you might get more than you bargained for.

Coming in as our honorable mention of second worst is Seffner Ave. Located at 11720 E Dr Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Seffner, FL and has an average of 3.7/5 stars. One user on Google said he has been going to this Walmart for 23 years, but it's become "absolutely disgusting" and can no longer tolerate it.
