Artificial Intelligence Real Estate Scam Targeting Florida Residents
An artificial intelligence real estate scam is targeting Florida residents! It’s best to be aware so you can protect yourself and your family!
This kind of thing can end up costing you everything you own or your life savings. Safe to say you don’t want this happening to you. It seems to start with a potential client saying they’d love to do business but would prefer to do it over text. They might even have a good excuse like they’re deaf or mute to make you correspond with them via text. One person in South Florida was able to catch on before losing his life savings!
What Is The A.I. Real Estate Scam Targeting Florida Residents?
Udi Levi got into real estate at the early age of 19. He probably didn’t expect to be the victim of a real estate scam. It sounds like it was a calling for him as his father was also involved in real estate and works as a real estate broker. Udi, a 1st time buyer, tells WSVN, “I’ve been looking for a while now for an investment, kind of to put my money towards it to develop in the future, and my dad came to me with this land.” The land was a vacant lot in Hallandale Beach and it sounds like the dad learned of the property after someone reached out wanting to sell it. Seems normal enough? If you want to sell your property a real estate broker is a good person to go to.
According to WSVN, the seller told them she’d love to sell her property but she’s deaf so she wanted to text instead of talk on the phone. So, he asked her for 2 forms of ID to prove she was the owner and the IDs matched that of the property in question. The father and son agreed to buy the land that was for sale for $60K for $52K in cash and their offer was accepted.
At first, everything seemed like a normal closing. Until they noticed something that seemed off. Someone pointed out that it looks like it was all video and that the woman on the call looked like the pictures on the license and passport but wasn’t acting normally. It was an AI-generated image it turns out! They performed some tests and were able to confirm that it wasn’t a real person they were dealing with it was all artificial intelligence! How crazy is that?!
WSVN reports that it’s the first time that the Miami Dad Police and the Broward Sheriff’s Office had seen AI being used in fraud like this. However, they’re also sure it won’t be the last time they come across something like this. With the rise of artificial intelligence it’s probably already more common than any of us know and it’s only going to get more popular and common! Thankfully, the title company caught onto the scam or else he would have been out $52K! That’s a lot of money to lose instantly in a scam! It’s important to be careful out there and always know who you’re dealing with! Otherwise this could happen to you and you might not catch it in time!
