60 People Got Snowed In At A UK Pub For 3 Days And Loved It
A snowstorm in the U.K. over the weekend left a pub’s worth of customers trapped for three nights — and they surprisingly had a great time.
Per BBC, dozens of guests got trapped by heavy snow at the Tan Hill Inn, in the Yorkshire Dales, after going to see an Oasis tribute band on Friday night (November 26).
Manager Nicola Townsend said a snowplow finally managed to get through to Britain’s highest pub (1,732ft above sea level) yesterday morning after abandoned cars and fallen power cables made it impossible to clear the roads any earlier.
The 61 guests at the inn woke up to about three feet of snow on Saturday, but they had made the most of their time trapped together. “People have been willing to share rooms, we’ve got people on sofas and on the floor,” Townsend said. “All of our guests have just been wonderful, so we’ve been incredibly lucky. They’ve been very supportive, understanding and patient.”
She said customers had helped out with washing up, clearing tables and collecting glasses and the Oasis tribute band had been getting their guitars out. “Everyone’s been joining in and singing along,” she said. “It has just been like a get-together with good friends, we have discussed having a reunion next year.”
Townsend added, “It’s just been lovely and everyone is in really good spirits. They’ve formed quite a friendship, like a big family is the best way I can describe it. One lady actually said ‘I don’t want to leave.'”
She said staff had put on activities to keep people entertained, including a quiz and board games and that a karaoke evening was planned for later. One of the guests who had been stuck was Martin Overton, who said the atmosphere was “very good” with “plenty of beer available”.
His wife Stephanie added, “I’m quite chilled about being stranded, it’s quite exciting but we’re missing our son who is with his nana. I am wondering how long we will be here for though.”
Martin said they had been well looked after and made new friends. “There’s been instruments and games and in many way it has been a unique and enjoyable weekend, but I think we are all ready to go home now,” he said.
