Jimmy Buffett Sand Sculpture

Got to check out the Pier 60 Sugar Sand Festival on Clearwater Beach. The Jimmy Buffett sand sculptures were incredible. Check out these amazing designs inspired by lyrics from a Florida favorite, Jimmy Buffett. From parrots to lost shakers of salt, the artists really captured their love for Jimmy's music in these incredible creations.

The Sugar Sand Walk Exhibit is inside an enormous 21,000 square foot structure. You can take part in free sand sculpting classes. Plus there are food vendors, live music, and fireworks too. Ride a giant Ferris Wheel with great views of the beach. Keep in mind too they have free parking downtown Clearwater with shuttles running every 15 to 30 minutes to the beach. The shuttle is free too by the way.

This is the 10th year of the festival. This year's theme is the "sands of time." You can buy tickets online to skip the line. General admission is $14. Kids 3 and under are free.

You can bring cameras, blankets and low lying beach chairs, but they ask you to leave tents, grills, and your pets at home. Glass containers and bottles are also forbidden.

"5 O'Clock Somewhere"

The detail on this one and the facial expression are awesome. Definitely my favorite of the bunch. Even has that lost shaker of salt.

"Delaney Talks to Statues"

A great design from one of our locals! This sculpture is by Kumpa Tawornprom of Safety Harbor.

"Swim on the Land"

Sculpted by Mitch Guerrero, who holds sand sculpting classes on Siesta Key.

"Breathe In, Breathe Out, Move On"

Some good words to live by. This one was done by Kathy Nichols.

Amazing detail! Creating a sand castle is one thing, but I can't imagine the level of difficulty in carving out a face this accurately!

"Sand Walker Stranded on a Sandbar"

IMG_3019-Large.jpg

Sculpted by Patrick Anglin. Love the guitar!

"The Rocket That Grandpa Rode"

IMG_2991-Large.jpg

Mark Wilson created this gem. While many of these creations were done by visitors from around the world, Mark's a Florida guy.

"Searching For My Lost Shaker of Salt"

IMG_2997-Large.jpg

See the salt shaker on the right? This take on the Margaritaville lyric is by sculptor Mike Bradley. You can see more of his creations on his Pinterest page.

"Fins to the Left, Fins to the Right, You're the Only Castle In Site"

IMG_3001-Large.jpg

Sculpted by Pete Faverio aka "Pete the Sandman" from Delaware.

"Fins Place"

IMG_3006-Large.jpg

" Fins to the left, fins to the right and you're the only bait in town!" This one was sculpted by "Stig."

Buffett Tribute Concert

After checking out the sandcastles, a free concert from a Jimmy Buffett concert tribute band, complete with a Clearwater Beach sunset as a backdrop was the perfect end to the day.
