Top Ten Hardest Working States
Do you live in one of the top ten hardest working states? Or perhaps your home state ranks at the bottom as one of the laziest?
A study recently done by WalletHub.com compared 50 states across the nation to come up with rankings from 1 being the very hardest working state, to 50 being the least working state.
The study compared things like the amount of hours worked, workers that have more than one job, households with more than one person working, and those with full time jobs who still find time to do volunteer work.
It is obvious that we are a hard working lot. According to the World Economic Forum, American workers put in an average of 1,783 hours in 2017. With as many as 52% reporting they did not even use all their vacation days. While the theories on why we work so hard and pass on vacation are varied, some reasons mentioned were fear of losing your job while absent, fear of falling behind in your position, and worry about not appearing dedicated enough to your job. Some just say hard work is a part of the American Dream.
So here are the Top Ten Hardest Working States:
- Alaska
- North Dakota
- Wyoming
- South Dakota
- Nebraska
- New Hampshire
- Texas
- Colorado
- Virginia
- Kansas
And the 10 Laziest States:
- Michigan
- Rhode Island
- West Virgina
- New Mexico
- Oregon
- Ohio
- Nevada
- Kentucky
- Pennsylvania
- Alabama
And just in case your wondering where our great state fared, Florida came in at number 39, out of 50. But don’t feel like we’re living in a lazy state though, the inordinate number of retirees skews the numbers to a lower ranking.
