You might be surprised to find that one of the foods you consume daily may be making you sick.

The CDC (Center For Disease Control & Prevention) recently did a 5 year study of statistics on food poisoning and the number of outbreaks that occured. They compiled a definitive list, ranking the top five food that are most likely to give you food poisoning. Not surprisingly, its five very common foods that are consumed in mass daily.

Chicken is number one on the list, surely because of the fact we eat so much of it. With the amount of chicken we consume, naturally your odds of encountering a bad batch, or eating a piece that has been under-cooked, is more likely.

Below are the top five foods that are most likely to cause food poisoning or make you feel ill.

  1. Chicken - 3,114 case of food poisoning reported
  2. Pork - 2,670 case reported
  3. Seeded Veggies, (peppers, cucumbers, etc) - 2,572 illnesses reported
  4. Eggs - 2,407 cases reported
  5. Fruit - 2,420 illnesses reported

The remaining 5 of the top 10 list are: leafy veggies, beef, turkey, dairy and fish.

Personally, I try to consume red meat sparingly. So for me, I always make sure that my chicken and fish are completely cooked. It's a fine balance between being cooked... and being over-cooked. Also, washing vegetables and fruits is MUST. Bon Appetit!
