Time Is Running Out For The Rays
The deadline is looming for the Rays to step up to the plate (lame pun intended) if they want this move to Tampa to happen. We’ve seen the beautiful designs for a new Ybor stadium. But since then, it’s been a waiting game. 2018 is drawing to a close. And the deal the Rays have with Pinellas County that allows them to look for a new home in Hillsborough comes to an end when 2019 arrives.
The Tampa Bay Times says Hillsborough is waiting for a response from the team. TBT reports that Hillsborough County Administrator Mike Merrill sent a memo to county commissioners with a possible deal and that the team needs to take it from there. County Commissioner Ken Hagan told the Times the Rays will have to come up with at least half the money, about $450 million. The Times reports the Rays have been willing to pay about $200 million.
