Would You Relocate For A Job?
For me this question is an easy one. Having moved from town to town… up and down the radio and TV dial, it’s just part of life in my business. You go where the work is. And 62% of people out there, from all different walks of life, agree with me.
According to a new survey done by Robert Half Staffing, two thirds, (62%) of people say “yes” they would relocate, and their family would just have to deal with it. The main reason cited would be for a better position and higher salary.
44% said better pay and perks would be the top reason to consider a move. 17% would do it for family reasons, 16% for a better cost of living, 16% to advance their own career, and 6% would do it just for better weather.
Interestingly enough, the survey also found the 7 cities people really WANT to leave, if they could find another job. Those 7 cities are below:
- Raleigh NC
- Miami FL
- Des Moines, Iowa
- Charlotte NC
- Seattle WA
- Chicago IL
- Los Angeles CA (having lived in LA for around 25 yrs of my life, this one I get)
And then the survey showed the five cities where the people LEAST likely to want to leave for the sake of a job. Those five are below:
- Minneapolis Minn
- Boston MA
- Philadelphia PA
- Detroit MI
- Atlanta GA
I am surprised at the second list. Maybe I’m missing something about those 5 cities. 😉
