Florida Shipwreck Claims Life Of Scuba Diver
According to the Miami Herald, a 59 year old Indiana woman who was scuba diving at a popular shipwreck off Key West, died this week.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office says when the incident occurred, the woman named as Rebecca Butler-Power, was diving with the commercial dive boat Southpoint Divers at a popular dive-site in Key West.
The sheriff’s office report states that on Thursday January 16th., Butler-Power was surfacing from about 100 feet of water at the site of the USS Gen. Hoyt S. Vandenberg, (just south of Key West) when she went into distress.
She was taken to the Coast Guard station at Key West around 10:30 a.m., where Key West Fire Rescue paramedics were waiting. Butler-Power was then transported to Lower Keys Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.
