Tampa Bay Rays: To Wear City Connect Uniform In ’24
Excitement is building as we are a few short weeks away from Major League Baseball’s 2024 opening day. For the always colorful Rays x City Connect 👀 pic.twitter.com/tMMTQCbp2z
— Tampa Bay Rays (@RaysBaseball) February 13, 2024?lang=en" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tampa Bay Rays, 2024 will find a new jersey option in the mix. The Rays are one of just nine teams tapped to wear a City Select uniform for select games.
“For the fourth year in a row, Major League Baseball is rolling out its creative, yet polarizing, City Connect alternate uniforms,” USA Today said.
The other eight teams that will join the Rays in rocking these threads during the 2024 season will be: the Detroit Tigers, Philadelphia Phillies, Cleveland Guardians, Toronto Blue Jays, New York Mets, Minnesota Twins, St. Louis Cardinals, and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
“Introduced in the 2021 season, the Nike MLB City Connect Series celebrates each city’s deep-rooted history, culture and spirit that continues to bring the clubs and their communities together,” MLB explained.
In addition, these alternate jerseys explore an innovative artistic touch. Often, the color schemes are a bit louder. They represent the cities’ culture and history in a unique fashion. This model has been quite popular in the NBA. From fluorescent colors to graffiti fonts, the basketball jerseys are often in a color that is not part of the team’s general kit.
What To Expect With The Tampa Bay Rays City Connect Jersey
You may have noticed the Rays sporting a bright yellow pre-season cap this year at spring training. It’s available in a standard fitted-sized hat or with a mesh back. It is expected the yellow will factor into the City Connect look somehow, even if it’s a secondary accent.
MLB has not unveiled the official City Connect jersey for any of the nine teams named for this year. The expectation is that they will do so after the start of the season. The same holds true for all the dates where the Rays will sport this look.
What we do know is that the look is significantly different from the alternate look that many teams wear. For example, in San Diego, the Padres wore a jersey that featured a pink, teal, and fluorescent color scheme. This was a big departure from their standard brown and yellow.
The Miami Marlins had a red with white stripe City Connect jersey. The Colorado Rockies jersey paid tribute to the state license plater, and the Boston Red Sox have a yellow jersey with a light blue cap.
MLB has made significant strides in its attempt to modernize part of the sport. The City Connect concept is unconventional yet fun. You can see all of the teams that have worn City Connect jerseys in years past here.
MLB Power Rankings: Top Teams to Start 2024
Spring is coming, and that means baseball is on the way. So, why not get into some early MLB Power Rankings?
If you weren’t happy with how last season ended, then you’re in luck. That’s because you have a million new games up ahead in the 2024 season. Okay, maybe not a million. But, a lot. The Major League Baseball season schedule packs a whopping 162 games for each of the 30 teams in the American League (AL) and National League (NL). Those games take place over about six months. That means baseball fans, in theory, could watch 2,430 games in the regular season alone.
Don’t do that. You have more of a life than to sit around watching 2,430 baseball games. But, I should talk. During football season, I watch all the games I can get my eyes on.
Let’s not leave out the minor leagues, by the way. It’s always really fun to go to a minor league baseball game, because it’s much more chill than a major league game. It’s also cheaper, both tickets and parking. So, don’t just support your major league team this year. Cheer for the minor league guys, too. You won’t have quite as many games to catch in the minor league, though, as a full, regular season in Triple-A is 150 games, Double-A is 138 games and High-A and Single-A are 132 games. Still, that’s lots and lots of baseball to attend.
With the official start of baseball season getting closer, it’s a good time to get into my initial Power Rankings for 2024. Sure, this is a bit premature, since players will shift going into the season. But, the biggest players are with their respective teams now, so we have a good picture and idea of which teams will pop in 2024. Frankly, deciding between No. 1 and 2 was very difficult, because both teams are so, so solid right now. Who are your picks for the 2024 season?
