Today is Friday the 13th.!
Does Friday the 13th. bring you some nervousness about the day?
According to The Sun, the idea that Friday the 13th. is unlucky actually dates back to biblical times. It is written that because Jesus’ Last Supper was on a Friday… and there were 13 people present (the 12 Apostles and Jesus) that every Friday the 13th. would be unholy and fraught with peril.
So, what facts or occurrences in history bolster the worry of millions?
Some point to the largest money crisis to ever occur. We’re talking about the crash of 1989… which happened on Friday the 13th. On Friday, October 13, 1989 the Dow Jones Industrial Average experienced a drop of 190.58 points, the second largest drop that had ever been experienced at that time, and the biggest money crisis to date.
Younger folks point to the fact that iconic hip-hop artist Tupac Shakur was killed on Friday, September 13, 1996. Tupac died of gunshot injuries in a Las Vegas hospital after a drive-by shooting that remains unsolved to this day.
Some people won’t fly on this date. There are an alarmingly large number of plane crashes that have occurred on Friday 13th.
The cruise ship the Costa Concoridia hit rocks and sunk off the coast of Italy on Friday, January 13, 2012.
The list of tragedies goes on and on. But statisticians say that you can point to any day and collect just as many tragic events. So, fear not! Today is really just like any other day. Or is it?
