South Tampa Farm Destroyed With Many Animals And Bees Dead
An adorable farm tucked away in South Tampa has lost almost everything after their farm was flooded during Hurricane Helene. In a public Facebook post they announced and showed pictures of the severe devastation that happened on their grounds. The South Tampa Honey Farm located at 6101 South 2nd Street has been a Tampa staple for many decades. Previously they provided the area with products like raw milk, chicken, beef, soaps and raw honey. Sadly, with the recent hurricane they’re left with almost nothing left.
South Tampa Honey Farm Destroyed From Hurricane:
The South Tampa Farm has lost 80% or more of everything they owned on their land. From buildings that employees lived in, to animals and farm equipment. One of their beloved pet pigs named Hammy also passed away from the severe flooding. Sadly, they don’t have flood insurance and are asking for the community to come together and help if they can. About 200 hives washed away and were trashed across the farm and destroyed by water damage. Also, half the farm has sketchy electrical issues with farm equipment damaged and scattered everywhere.
In a post to supporters, neighbors and fans the owners wrote “We are reaching out in an incredibly difficult time for South Tampa Honey Farm. Hurricane Helene has devastated our entire apiary, The BEE YARD, destroying over 200 bee hives, much equipment, employee living spaces, and much more. We lost a few animals but thanks to our farm family and neighbors, we were able to save most animals. The damage to our land and facilities is overwhelming, and the losses could easily total over $100,000. This catastrophe has not only impacted our business but also the community we serve. We are now at risk of losing what we’ve worked so hard to build.”
They are looking to rebuild their apiary which is a bee yard and more. The owners have started a GoFund me to help rebuild their local farm. If you would like to donate please click the link here.
