Umpire Saves Woman From Jumping Off Bridge, Then Works Rays-Pirates Game
Before the Tampa Bay Rays played against Pittsburgh, an umpire was near PNC Park, home of the Pirates, at the Roberto Clemente Bridge. There, he saw a woman who looked as though she was going to jump.
Major League umpire John Tumpane then went into action. He tried to talk to her, got a passerby to call 9-1-1, and he grabbed hold of the woman.
He had his arms locked around the woman as her legs dangled over the side of the bridge.
After help arrived, they were able to get her back to safety.
Here’s John Tumpane talking about what happened.
